The future is bright for electrical apprentices at SETA

The future is bright for upcoming electricians studying at the Southampton Engineering Training Association (SETA) thanks to a generous donation of electrical equipment from Gewiss UK Ltd.

SETA based at Millbrook, Southampton, offers accredited, industry-recognised training to an advanced level and supports engineers throughout their career.  From apprentices just starting out to time-served engineers wishing to upgrade and update their skills, SETA offers the qualifications and courses to suit.

Apprenticeships are a great way of learning by combining theoretical knowledge with practical application. Engineering apprentices at SETA follow a rotation timetable covering engineering subjects appropriate to their trade.

During their initial ‘off-the-job’ workshop training, electrical apprentices cover topics including Electrical wiring & testing, Electrical Maintenance, Electrical support systems and enclosures, Building & testing PLC sub systems, as well as Assembling & testing electronic subsystems. The donated electrical equipment including IP rated boxes, both horizontal and rotary interlocks, will greatly help support the apprentices learning the manual installation of electrical circuits.

Alec Roberts, Lead Electrical instructor at SETA, welcomes the donation and said “The kit will greatly help in the workshop.  As you can imagine where equipment is re-used time after time as the apprentices are learning, it can deteriorate more quickly with building and strip downs that have to take place.”

SETA’s Operations Director, Mike Driscoll, added “As a not for profit organisation donations that support the day-to-day delivery of the workshop training for apprentices learning their trade are greatly received. This support goes a long way in helping train our future engineers.”

Gino Stocchetti, Managing Director at Gewiss UK Ltd, said “We are pleased to help SETA and the next generation of electrical engineers. Our products are very robust, and as they are industrial will be perfect for many installations.”
