 Overview
This course is aimed at practising electricians who need to achieve the City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in inspection, testing and certification of electrical installations (2391-52). The course requires that you have knowledge and experience of Inspection & testing and use of electrical test equipment, an understanding and experience of different types of certifications and reporting along with experience of fault finding and classification codes. A 2391-52 qualification is currently required to gain your ECS Gold Card or entry to competent person scheme such as NEIC/ NAPIT.

Course Content

The course will cover the specific methods of initial inspection and testing and condition reporting on all types of installations, combining a mix of both theory and practical sessions covering single and three-phase installations, to the current requirements of BS 7671. It covers the inspection and testing techniques as given in IET Guidance Note 3 and how to professionally complete Certification and Reports.
Key areas covered include:

  1. Safe isolation of electrical circuits and installations
  2. Establish a safe system of work appropriate to the installation
  3. Carry out the relevant safe isolation procedure in accordance with HSE guidance
  4. Carry out inspection in accordance with BS 7671 and IET Guidance Note 3
  5. Complete a schedule of inspections in accordance with BS 7671 and IET Guidance Note 3
  6. Carry out tests in accordance with BS 7671 and IET Guidance Note 3
  7. Verify test results for compliance or classification
  8. Complete documentation in accordance with BS 7671 and IET Guidance Note 3
    • Testing of single phase and 3 phase simulated rigs including fault finding.


 Entry Requirements

~ Candidates must be 18 years old or older.
~ This course is designed for practising electricians; therefore candidates must hold a relevant Level 3 qualification (such as C&G 2365/2357/2330/8282/5357/5393, equivalent historic qualifications or other awarding organisation equivalent)
~City & Guilds 2382-22 18th Edition Wiring Regulations or Equivalent
~ Furthermore, candidates are encouraged to participate in our Inspection and Testing Refresher Course, which provides hands-on experience with electrical installations.

Assessment for this course:

The course consists of 4 Assessments:

~ Task A – Visual Inspection on fault finding and compliances – CLOSED BOOK
~ Task B – Practical testing & Certification and Reporting Assessment – OPEN BOOK
~ Task C – Written exam paper on Initial verification and periodic inspection, along with Wiring, building regs and GS38 and Electricity at work regulations. – OPEN BOOK
Tasks are considered complete when you achieve 100%

~ Online Exam - 2 hour Online Multi Choice Exam – OPEN BOOK – Pass mark of 75%
